Bible Verses for Love

1 Corinthians 13:4-7

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”

The most comprehensive definition of love in the Bible. Paul describes not a feeling but a choice — a consistent, self-giving, patient commitment that reflects God's character.

John 3:16

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

The most famous verse in the Bible — love defined by sacrifice. God's love for you wasn't theoretical; it cost Him everything.

Romans 8:38-39

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Paul prays that we would comprehend a love too vast for our minds to fully contain. Being rooted in this love changes everything about how we live.

Song of Solomon 8:7

“Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot sweep it away.”

Love — whether human or divine — has a staying power that defies all circumstances. True love cannot be extinguished by any force the world throws at it.
